  PHYSICIANS
SEMAAN MICHAEL ABBOUD, M.D.    [top]

Dr. Abboud is a General Surgeon whose practice is located at the Millsboro Cedar Tree office. He is also the Medical Director of Cedar Tree Surgical Center. Dr. Abboud received his undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware as well as completing Graduate Study and Research at the University of Delaware. He earned his Medical Degree from Thomas Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and completed his Internship and Residency in General Surgery at Waterbury Hospital Center in Waterbury, Connecticut. While at Waterbury, he served as Chief Surgical Resident.

Dr. Abboud is Board Certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Abboud served in the United States Army Reserves and retired at the rank of Major.

Dr. Abboud serves on many medical committees and boards including: the Medicare Advisory Committee, the Delaware Trauma Board, and the Trauma Committee for the State of Delaware. He has received numerous awards and distinctions such as "America's Top Surgeons Award 2004-2005" and "Delaware Today Top Docs 2001". He is a member of the Delaware Medical Society and the American Medical Association.

 

FABRICIO J. ALARCON, M.D., FACP    [top]

Dr. Alarcon is an internist practicing at the Georgetown office. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and American Society of Internal Medicine. His medical practice is devoted to the specialty of adult medical care. He is fluent in Spanish and English.

Dr. Alarcon earned his medical degree from Cayetano Heredia Peruvian University and completed his postgraduate residency training at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. During his residency, he was elected "Best Intern" and "Best Senior Resident" as well as being elected "Chief Medical Resident." He ranked in the top 10th percentile in scholastic performance in Medical School. He also scored in the 95th national percentile in Internal Medicine In-training Examinations.

Dr. Alarcon has written several articles that have been published in prestigious medical journals. Those publications include: "Diagnosing and Treating Depression in Primary Care" (Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine May, 1998), "Depression and Movement Disorder" (Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine, October 1998), "Indication and Outcome of Endoscopic or Surgical Intervention for Worrisome Upper Gastrointestinal Lesions in Patients with Familial Adenomatous Polyposis "(Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, 1997), and "Familial Adenomatous Polyposis: Treatment of Advanced Duodenal Adenomas" (Diseases of Colon and Rectum, 1999). Dr. Alarcon also presented a paper at the American College of Gastroenterology, 63rd. Annual Scientific Meeting, October 1998. The topic of the paper was "Esophageal Vairces in Patients with Cirrhosis: Is Endoscopy Necessary for Everyone?".

Dr. Alarcon is Board Certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is an active staff member at Beebe Medical Center and Milford Memorial Hospital.

 

EDWARD BABIGUMIRA, M.D., FAAPMR    [top]

Dr Babigumira is a Board Certified Physiatrist, American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR) and ABPMR Board Certified Pain Medicine Specialist. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He joined Lewes Surgical and Medical Associates in July 2007. He earned his medical degree at Kigezi International School of Medicine in Cambridge, England, UK in 2001. He went on to perform clinical research in plastic surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX as a research fellow for one year. He then completed Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency (PM&R) Training at Louisiana State University School of Medicine Health Sciences Center in New Orleans (LSUHSC). He served as Chief Resident and was honored as Resident of the year during his residency. He has co-authored a number of scientific articles, chapters, case studies and served on the graduate medical education committee. He went on to complete a Pain Medicine, Musculoskeletal and interventional spine Fellowship at Louisiana State University School of Medicine Health Sciences Center in New Orleans (LSUHSC), where he performed numerous spinal procedures. He trained under the tutelage of world renowned spine interventionalist Dr Charles Aprill. He is an active member of International Spine Intervention Society. (ISIS) and American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPM&R).

His main interest is musculoskeletal, spine, neuromuscular disorders, chronic medical and interventional pain management. He performs a variety of fluoroscopically guided spinal procedures including cervical, thoracic, lumbar epidural steroid injections, sympathetic blocks, facet injections, radiofrequency ablation, provocative discography, nucleoplasty and dorsal column stimulation. He also performs peripheral joint injections that include sacroiliac, knee, hip joint injections and myofascial trigger point injections with Botox. He also has an interest in electrodiagnostic medicine, electromyography and nerve conduction studies (EMG/NCS) to help diagnose and treat a broad range of neuromuscular disorders including carpal tunnel syndrome, peripheral neuropathy, ulnar neuropathy and lumbar radiculopathy. Dr Babigumira strongly believes in not only diagnosing underlying ailments in patients with acute and chronic pain but treating them ethically with the utmost compassion and dignity.

 

  GEORGES A. DAHR, M.D.    [top]

Dr. Dahr is a physician associate at the Millsboro Office of Lewes Surgical and Medical Associates. He also sees patients at his other office in Lewes. His practice is limited to Cardiology.

Dr. Dahr completed his undergraduate Degree in Biology and his Medical Degree at the American University of Beirut. While attending the University, he was named to the Dean's Honor List for academic excellence during both his undergraduate and his medical studies. Dr. Dahr completed his Internship in Internal Medicine at the American University of Beirut Medical Center. After relocating to the United States, Dr. Dahr completed his Residency in Internal Medicine at New York University Medical Center where he served as Chief Medical Resident during the academic year of 1998-1999. Dr. Dahr then went on to complete a Cardiology Fellowship at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, Division of Cardiology.

Dr. Dahr is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and by the American Board of Nuclear Cardiology. He is on staff at Beebe Medical Center.

 

FADI DAMOUNI, M.D.    [top]

Dr. Damouni joined Lewes Surgical and Medical Associates in December of 1998. His area of practice is Internal Medicine and his practice is based at the Millsboro Office.

Dr. Damouni completed both his undergraduate Degree in Biology and his Medical Degree at the American University of Beirut in Beirut, Lebanon. He completed his Internship in Internal Medicine at the American University of Beirut and his Residency in Internal Medicine at New York University.

Dr. Damouni is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. He is a member of the American University of Beirut Alumni and a member of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Damouni is an active member of the medical staff at both Beebe Medical Center and Milford Memorial Hospital. He has served on various committees at both hospitals.

 

NANCY A. MONDERO, D.O.    [top]

Dr. Mondero joined Lewes Surgical and Medical Associates in 2002. She practices in both the Rehoboth and the Millsboro offices. Dr. Mondero's practice is devoted to Gynecology. She is affiliated with Bayhealth Medical Center, Milford Division.

Prior to moving to Delaware, Dr. Mondero was in private OB/GYN practice and was previously on staff at Lankenau Hospital, Bryn Mawr Hospital, and Riddle Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Mondero is a graduate of Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. She received her medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her residency in OB/GYN at Community Hospital of Lancaster. Dr. Mondero is Board Certified by the American College of Osteopathic Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Mondero is a Certified Menopause Clinician. Her professional society memberships include AOA, ACOOG, & FOMA.

 

MICHAEL R. SAMAHA, M.D.    [top]

Dr. Samaha specializes in Pulmonary & Internal Medicine. He joined the Medical Staff at the Georgetown Office in 2003. Dr. Samaha received his Bachelor of Science degree from the American University of Beirut and his Medical degree from the Lebanese University. He did his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine and a Fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the American University of Beirut Medical Center. He also did a Residency in Internal Medicine at Staten Island University Hospital in New York where he was also Chief Resident in Internal Medicine. Upon completion of that Residency, he went on to complete a Fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He holds a medical license in Delaware and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases, and Critical Care.

Dr. Samaha has received awards from the American College of Physicians-American Society of Internal Medicine for clinical research and by the American Medical Association in continuing medical education. Dr. Samaha has also been published several times in medical journals for research work in pulmonary diseases. He is a member of the American Thoracic Society (ATS), the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP). His practice is based at the Milford Office, and he is on staff at the Milford Memorial Hospital and has consulting privileges at Beebe Medical Center.

 

  PHILIP E. SHAHEEN, M.D.    [top]

Dr. Shaheen has joined the medical staff of Lewes Surgical and Medical Associates and is practicing at the Rehoboth Beach and Bethany Beach office locations. He is a graduate of Damascus University, School of Medicine in Damascus, Syria.

After relocating to the United States, Dr. Shaheen completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Wright State University, School of Medicine in June of 2003. He then completed Fellowships at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Palliative Medicine (2003-2004) and Experimental Therapeutics in Oncology (2004-2005).

Dr. Shaheen has devoted much of his time to research and has authored many papers and writings on various oncology-related topics. He is licensed to practice medicine in Delaware and Ohio and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

He belongs to the American College of Physicians, the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. In addition to English, Dr. Shaheen is fluent in Arabic and Armenian. He is also able to read and write French.

JUDY L. HOWETT, RN, MSN, FNP    [top]

Ms. Howett is a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner at the Bethany Beach Office. She joined Lewes Surgical and Medical Associates in April of 2002.

Ms. Howett received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Wilmington College in Georgetown, Delaware. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner Degree from Wilmington College in Georgetown, Delaware. She is Certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the American Nurses Credentialing Board.

Ms. Howett has practiced Nursing in various capacities and with a wide range of experience from School Nurse to Emergency Department.

  OTHER NURSE PROFESSIONALS
  BARBARA A. CAMPIONE, R.N., C.N.O.R., Administrative Clinical Director    [top]

Barbara Campione joined Cedar Tree Surgical Center in November of 2002. Prior to relocating to Delaware, Barbara was the Director of Surgical Services at Warminster Hospital in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, a Tenet Healthcare facility. While at Warminster Hospital, she served in various nursing leadership capacities from Manager of the SurgiCenter to interim Chief Nursing Officer. She was appointed by Tenet Regional Materials Management to serve as the Pennsylvania Region Representative at their National Surgery Advisory Committee. As Director of Surgical Services, Barbara had responsibility for the Operating Room, PACU, and a separate SurgiCenter.

Barbara studied at Temple University for her Nursing program. She is board certified in perioperative nursing by the Certification Board of Perioperative Nursing. She has been published in Nursing Management and authored a module on Sutures and Other Closure Devices for a Tenet sponsored on-line perioperative nursing program. She currently serves as a periodic reviewer of perioperative articles for Lippincott, Williams, & Wilkins.

While at Cedar Tree, Barbara has implemented many policies and procedures and co-ordinated a successful JCAHO survey in June of 2004. She has been responsible for the development of this website.

 

  LYNDA COLLINS, C.R.N.A., B.S.N.    [top]

Ms. Collins is the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at the Cedar Tree Surgical Center. She received her diploma in Nursing from Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden, New Jersey and her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she graduated Cum Laude. She completed Nurse Anesthesia School at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden, New Jersey.

Prior to joining the staff at Cedar Tree Surgical Center, Ms. Collins has been on the Anesthesia Staff at Beebe Medical Center, Kent General Hospital in Dover, Delaware, Cooper Hospital/University Medical Center in Camden, New Jersey and Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, also in Camden, New Jersey. While at our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, she was a clinical and didactic Instructor at the School of Anesthesia for Nurses.

Ms. Collins is licensed to practice as a CRNA in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. She is a member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists and a Life Member of the Alumni Association of the College of Allied Health Sciences at Thomas Jefferson University.
